About Us

Our Journey in Maple Sugaring

In 1984, Roger Murray embarked on a sweet journey that would become the heart of North Country Maple. Starting with a humble homemade welded pan and just 60 taps, Roger's passion for maple sugaring quickly grew. By 1988, he had acquired his first commercial evaporator, a Leader with King Pans, and expanded to 200 taps.

The 1990s marked significant growth for North Country Maple. In 1995, we invested in a new Leader evaporator, expanding our operation to 500 taps. The next two decades saw our tap count soar to an impressive 4,000 taps by 2018. Always looking to innovate and improve, we built a new sugarhouse in 2019 and added a new sugarbush in 2021, now boiling for 6,000 taps.

Thomas Tree Farm: A Tradition of Evergreen Excellence

The roots of Thomas Tree Farm were planted in 1987 with 9,000 various species of Christmas trees. Over the years, we've continued to plant and nurture trees, introducing new hybrid species like the "Fralsams." Our current plantation boasts Balsams, Douglas Fir, Scotch Pine, Blue Spruce, and Fralsam trees. Each year, we strive to grow and diversify, ensuring that our farm remains a cherished destination for families during the holiday season.

Our Sawmill: Crafting Quality from White Pine and Hemlock

In 2018, we ventured into sawmilling, focusing primarily on White Pine and Hemlock. The demand for our quality milling services has grown each year, keeping us busy throughout the summer months. Our sawmill is not just a business; it’s a commitment to sustainability and quality craftsmanship that we take pride in.

North Country Maple Sales & Services LLC

2023 marked the beginning of a new chapter with the launch of North Country Maple Sales & Services LLC. Our 4,400 square foot store opened in January 2024, offering a wide range of Lapierre maple sugaring equipment. With an in-house service shop led by our main technician, Jason, we began servicing North Country maple producers' equipment, fostering a strong community of maple enthusiasts.

In May 2024, we expanded our offerings by becoming an independent Amsoil Dealer and retailer. This new venture is part of our ongoing efforts to explore different avenues and grow our family businesses.

Our Growing Beef Herd

Our commitment to agriculture doesn't stop at maple and trees. In 2022, we started a beef herd, which has steadily grown. By 2023, our herd expanded to 15 cows, and we are focused on converting to the Hereford bloodline by breeding with Hereford bulls. Our goal is to continue growing the herd organically, with hopes of venturing into retail beef sales in the future.
